WHO QUALIFIES AS A SONGWRITER FOR THIS EVENT?

For this event, a songwriter is defined as an individual without an existing publishing or recording agreement with a music publishing company who performs 100% original compositions. If you fit this criterion, you're eligible to participate in the showcase.

WHAT ARE THE PERFORMANCE GUIDELINES FOR SONGWRITERS?

Each songwriter has a strict time limit of 10 minutes. Your compositions should be your original work and not previously published or recorded under a publishing or recording agreement.

IS THIS SHOWCASE A COMPETITION?

No, Homegrown: Live at the Capitol Theatre does not operate as a competition; it acknowledges that musical talent is subjective and cannot be judged in a fair manner. Each accepted entry into the showcase will receive an honorarium of $100, disbursed the night of the event.

Prizes

$300 Gift Certificate: After each performance, audience applause will be measured with a decibel meter. The performer with the highest decibel rating for the night will receive a $300 gift certificate to Newell’s Music.
$1,000 Grand Prize: Each ticket holder will receive five paper tickets upon entry to the event. Each performer will have a jar with their name on it, and ticket holders can place their tickets in the jars of the performers who resonated with them the most. Tickets can be divided among performers or placed all in one jar. At the end of the night, the performer with the most tickets will receive a grand prize of $1,000.

DOES PARTICIPATING IN THE SHOWCASE INVOLVE GRANTING PERMISSION FOR THE USE OF MY INFORMATION AND MEDIA?

Yes, entry into the showcase constitutes permission to use your name, likeness, biographical material, and media (such as music, videos, etc.) for advertising and publicity purposes related to the showcase. This usage is without compensation and is solely for promotional purposes.

WHAT MUSICAL STYLES ARE ALLOWED IN THE SHOWCASE?

The showcase welcomes unsigned songwriters in various musical styles and genres, aligning with an ambiance akin to the spirit of MTV Unplugged. Artists should embody the essence of versatility, as the showcase leans towards a setup similar to MTV Unplugged, where performers should adeptly carry, set up, and execute their instruments swiftly. We encourage artists to resonate with this atmosphere, delivering performances that captivate and engage the audience, embracing the intimacy and authenticity reminiscent of unplugged performances.

ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTESTANTS UNDER THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN (18)?

All contestants under the age of eighteen (18) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while participating in the showcase. This ensures a safe and supportive environment for our young talents.

IS THERE ANY FEE ASSOCIATED WITH PARTICIPATING IN THE SHOWCASE?

Participating musical performers won't face any performance fees. Please be aware that vendors displaying and selling their creations in the lobby marketplace might incur administrative fees for booth rentals.

HOW WILL PERFORMERS BE SELECTED?

We are currently accepting performer applications until January 31, 2025. Applicants will be informed of their status by February 3, 2025, and the lineup will be gradually revealed, starting February 7th, 2025, on the Road to Homegrown Blog and Social Platforms. Our team will review all applications received by the deadline and curate a diverse lineup of talented performers.
